Oregon Megabucks is the state of Oregon's lottery game. It was created in 1987 to help fund Education-Oriented (Ed-Oriented) programs statewide. Its major contribution from inception until 2000 went toward Ed-Oriented programs, specifically K-12 education and universities. In 2001, voters approved a change that now sends 40% of net Megabucks proceeds to the state's Ed-Oriented programs, and 20% each to economic development (business growth initiatives such as growing industry), parks (state owned/operated campgrounds, trails, etc.), and natural resources (for instance forest management).
The Oregon Lottery is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) and also offers scratch tickets. Megabucks drawings are held twice weekly: on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Drawings remain in Eugene; they were originally televised from Portland.
Since its inception in 1987 it has offered six prize levels all starting at $1 million; however, since July 17, 2013 there have been seven prize levels starting at $2
