About Tennessee Lottery

In November 2002, Tennessee voters approved the Tennessee state lottery for funding college scholarships. The following spring, the legislature created the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation, and the bill was signed on June 2003.

Lottery ticket sales began on January 20, 2004, with four instant games which include: Tennessee Millionaire, Lucky 7’s, $100,000 Jackpot and Tennessee Treasures. The ticket sales from those games reached an astonishing $10.8 million on the very first day. In March 2004, the TN Lottery launched its first draw game Cash 3 and other Tennessee Lottery results and games including Powerball in April and Lotto 5 in August.

The Tennessee Education Lottery launched a Summer Internship Program designed for students at the state’s historical Black colleges and universities. Lottery proceeds benefit Tennessee students attending both public or private colleges or universities across the state through Lottery-funded scholarships and grants. More than 100,000 people benefit each year from the awards and program including pre-kindergarten and after-school programs.

• For fiscal year 2021, Tennessee, 5,252 retailers generated $2,083,874,000 in gross sales.
• This economic activity generated $524,387,000 in transfers to beneficiaries.
• $1,253,821,000 was awarded to players in prizes.
