The Colorado Lottery started on January 24, 1983 first selling only scratch tickets. The first lottery ticket game drawing took place on April 23, 1983 and has the state has paid out more than 5 billion dollars in prizes! The jackpot games consist of Powerball, Mega Millions, Lucky for Life, Colorado Lotto+, Cash 5 and Pick 3.

Colorado Powerball was launched in 2001 and Mega Millions on May 16, 2010. Colorado joined Lucky for Life on July 17, 2016,  which is available in 24 states and the District of Columbia. Pick 3 began in April 2013 and Cash 5 began in 1996 and the Colorado Lotto+ replaced Colorado Lotto and had its first drawing on September 25, 2019. The state of Colorado is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association(MUSL).

In 2021, the state of Colorado generated $792 Million in revenue, and has paid out a  $61 million  in total retailer commissions. The Colorado Lottery also launched the Outdoor Equity Fund administered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife,  new for Fiscal Year 2021. For the first time in over a decade, new legislation changed the Lottery’s funding distribution after the GOCO cap was met. The new fund allocates money to fund projects that expand access to the outdoors for underrepresented communities. A fund that will grow every year, this year the fund received $750,000.

CPW received an additional $4.6 million based on the new funding formula. These funds are split equally between the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Cash Fund and the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Cash Fund.

Over  the last 39 years, the Colorado Lottery has given back  $3.9 billion to the state of  Colorado for state parks, recreation, open space, wildlife projects and public-school construction, which helps them enhance the great outdoors and building excellent schools today.

Can you be anonymous in Colorado if you win the lottery?

If you win on a ticket in Colorado, it is considered part of the Colorado Open Records Act. The Colorado Open Records Act mandates that your first name and first initial of your last name goes onto the Colorado Lottery website. You can choose to take you picture or not and its completely optional. Unfortunately, the Colorado Lottery does not recognize trusts, partnerships, or corporations and only individuals can claim lottery prizes.

Unfortunately, you cannot purchase Colorado Lottery tickets  by mail or by phone only at licensed retailers throughout the state.

What happens if my ticket is stolen or lost?

The Colorado Lottery is not responsible for lost or stolen tickets. Once you have a winner ticket, it is your responsibility to  sign the back of the ticket and fill out your address so no one else can use it. Prizes cannot be claimed unless the winning ticket is presented.
