Unfortunately, you cannot purchase lottery tickets over the internet or mail in Idaho. To purchase Idaho lottery tickets, lottery players must visit an authorized retail location in Idaho.
The Idaho State Lottery automatically deducts Federal and State income taxes from your winnings of prizes over $5,000. The Federal tax rate is 24% and the State of Idaho tax rate is 6.5%. Additionally, the ID Lottery reports winnings of $600 or over to the IRS, but they do not deduct taxes until the prize exceeds $5,000.
You must be at least 18 years of age or older, to legally purchase a lottery ticket in Idaho and claim the top jackpot prizes. You do not have to be an Idaho resident or a citizen of the USA to play and win.Non-Idaho residents claim their winnings as a non-resident United States citizen and must show photo ID for your legal residency. During the following year in April, you will need to file an income tax return for all monies earned (winnings included) in the State of Idaho.
Citizens of the U.S may also receive a credit on their state of residence income tax return for the monies you have paid to the State of Idaho however, it is advised to speak with an attorney and tax accountant.
Unfortunately, if you win a jackpot prize in the state of Idaho, information like your name, the town in which you live, where you bought the ticket, and how much you won are all a matter of public record.
Lottery winners have 180 days from the date of draw to redeem their winning lottery ticket winnings. For scratch off tickets, you have 180 days from the official end of the game to claim your prize.
When people play lottery in a large group and the group wins, each player in the group shares in the tax liability equally. The lottery tax rates are removed at a rate of 24% Federal and 6.925%. Each group member receives their W-2 G forms, which shows their tax liability along with a check for their portion of their lottery winning.
If the lottery group selects an annuity, taxes are removed each year based upon current tax laws before preparing the winners' annual checks. The Idaho Lottery must pre-pay taxes on winning amounts consistent with current Federal and State tax laws.
If a lottery winner unfortunately passes away before receiving all the annual payments, the remainder of the money will be issued to the winner's estate.
