Launched in 1992 as a way to provide essential funding for a variety of educational initiatives in the state, the Georgia Lottery offers numerous ways for you to play. You can choose from almost a dozen draw games, about 90 instant games, and a handful of online games. Since its inception, the Georgia Lottery has allocated more than $21 billion into the state's Lottery for Education account. In fiscal Year 2022, the GLC transferred $1,474,003,000 to the Lottery for Education Account – that’s $4.04 million (on average) raised every day for HOPE & Pre-K. Every year the lottery takes in over $1 billion in ticket sales from draw games and scratch-off tickets.

What Georgia Lottery games can I play?

If you're 18 years of age or older, you can play several different Georgia Lottery games. It's important to note that it’s All or Nothing game ended in December 2019. The games still available to play include the following:

How long do I have to claim my prize?

You have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim your winnings.

How do I collect my winnings?

If you don't know what to do if you win the lottery in Georgia state lottery, you have several ways of collecting your prize from the lottery. For prizes of $600 or less, simply sign the back of your ticket and visit any of the 8,700 Georgia Lottery retailer locations to collect your winnings on your Georgia Lottery Tickets. You can also mail your ticket to the following location:

For prizes of $601 or higher, you must fill out a claim form and bring two forms of valid identification and you social security card information when you visit one of the Georgia Lottery District Offices (GLC) or its headquarters:

You will receive payment that day for prizes between $601 and $499,999. Prizes worth $500,000 and more will be paid out between five and 10 business days.If you purchased your winning ticket via Georgia Lottery's website or mobile app, prizes up to and including $600 will go back to your account. For prizes over $600, you will receive an email requesting that you visit a district office to claim your prize.

Do I need to pay taxes when I win the lottery?

Yes, if you win a prize, you must pay state and federal taxes when applicable. For prizes above $600, you must report the names of the winners to both the Georgia Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service. If you're a resident of Georgia, you must pay 6% in state tax and 24% in federal tax. Non-Georgia residents and non-U.S. residents must pay 6% in state tax and 30% in federal tax.

Can I remain anonymous if I win?

Yes, you can remain anonymous, but it depends on how much money you win. In May 2018, Georgia legislators passed a bill that allows winners of $25,000 and above to remain anonymous if they want. If you win between $601 and $24,999, your name is public record, but you still have the choice of participating in a press release or not. However, you can consult with a lawyer about possibly setting up a trust to retain your anonymity.

Has anyone in the state of Georgia won a jackpot or top prize?

Yes, when the Powerball had its record breaking 1.9 billion jackpot, eight Georgians won prizes ranging from $50,000 to $1 million. One Powerball ticket bought in Evans Georgia has won someone the prize of $1 million. Seven other people in Atlanta, Bremen, Pooler, Roberta, Milledgeville, Watkinsville, and West Point won $50,000 each.

Ira Curry from Stone Mountain bought a Mega Millions ticket on while on her way to work. The insurance executive won half the $648 million jackpot in the December 17, 2013. Ira chose the cash option payout and received $173,819,742.50 in lottery winnings before taxes. The jackpot had to be split because there was another winner who had the winning ticket.  Also in 2013, Eric Millen of Duluth won $1 million playing the Monopoly Millionaire instant game.

Do you win anything if you hit the Mega Ball or Cash Ball?

Yes, if you get the Mega Ball you win $2. If you hit the Cash Ball for Cash For Life, you win $4.   

If I live in another state, can I cash a ticket?

No if you live in another state like Florida, you cannot cash any tickets. The tickets can only be cashed in the state that the ticket is from.
